Fulfilling week and meeting David

Planned, prepared and emceed for a major event on Friday.. that’s one big project down. And throughout the week I couldn’t stop telling my colleagues that it’s David’s concert on Saturday XD it was all I could think about the moment we wrapped up the event wahaha the concert didn’t disappoint at all. Warning super long recount from when I arrived at kallang on Saturday at about 630pm. I chose a pretty dress to wear ahaha :))

Went to kallang wave mall to get dinner, the bf and I had a comfortable amount of time to eat before concert started at 8. I kept spazzing about being at the same mrt station as David or bumping into him at the mall if he wanted to come out for a breather before concert XD fat hope of course haha. Dinner was meh and the wait was long. It was 7.40 when we walked to the stadium and started queuing at the north west entrance. Bag check moved fast but the bf had to empty his bottle of water before he was allowed in.. Before going to our seats we went to the toilet inside the stadium and luckily the queue moved fast. When I was out the special guest micapella was already performing some crowd warming pieces but I totally forgot what songs those were wahaha too excited and also whatsaping my colleague who received free tickets and was at the stadium.

While making our way to our seat section right at the front, we were stopped by the usher who wanted to see our tickets. I was quite pissed cos I had legit tickets and didn’t need their help to verify if I was walking the right way. My heart sank when usher said those sitting at my section have a “free upgrade” to cat 1 at the back Cos there was a slight block by some speakers. I was damn unhappy lah.. When I bought the tickets online months ago, there was no notification whatsoever and I made sure to buy what I thought were the best cat 2 tickets available. Anyways the usher told us to go down and take a look first, if we didn’t want, we just needed to go back up and find her.

Turned out some vertically stacked up speakers on the stage were in the way of our view. That was the case on the other side of the stage too. If David stood further back near the band, I wouldn’t be able to see him.. of course I sulked at that :( Wahlao pay so much to get an obstructed view?? Unacceptable sia. But moving to cat 1 was even worse as I was sure they were going to give us the left over cat 1 seats which were right at the back. And the cat 1 seating at indoor stadium wasn’t staggered or tiered. Siting at the back would be horrible, if ppl in front stood up, I would need to decapitate some heads to see David (jk lol)

Anyways I was abit tempted to change but decided not to as my seats were really near the stage and I figured I would be able to see David most of the time. Thinking back, that was totally the right decision.

The concert started at about 8.10pm with a video of all the past albums names, album art and the songs. I have almost all the official albums except for Black tangerine and I’m OK which is abit ironic Cos I fell in love with him during Black tangerine album, and my mum’s colleague lent me the Im OK album. Towards the end of the video, I saw David!! He was at the bottom of the short stairs leading up to the stage. Wahaha once again great job me for choosing to sit at the north west side. He started off with Runaway :) followed by a short greeting and a brief talk about the concert programme.

When he sang Susan said, the guy 1 seat away exclaimed “yeaaaa man this is what I came here for!”. Ok dude. Short para about the guy and his partner who were on the same row and right beside me. The guy sounded Ang moh chinese in an irritating way and was quite excited at some songs. He sang along really really loudly for Pu tong peng you and I was irritated, maybe Cos of the accent, and he was singing at the gf (?) which was literally him singing in my direction. Strangely his enthusiasm died down half way and I never heard from him much after that lol. Him and his partner didn’t stay for the encore too. What a loss Cos David sang 2 songs for encore.

I can’t remember the exact order actually but the song list has Wang ba dan, Xiao zhen gu niang, Yue liang dai biao shui de xin, pu tong peng you (I recorded part of this song, super lovely), Chinese lady, Tao Yan hong Lou meng, My Anata (pleasantly surprised that he sang this!! Really long time no hear), Shanghaied, Airport 10.30, Black Tuesday, Black tangerine, hokkien version of Wang chun Feng, Mars baby, Jin tian ni yao jia gei wo, Ai wo hai shi ta, Tian tian. Final song was Zhao zi ji. Encore was Jiu shi Ai ni, and Ai hen jian dan. I might have missed out some but the point was that he sang alot and btw concert ended at 10.30pm, 2.5 hours! Woohoo!

Now I must really elaborate on how I almost lost my life (jk) and my leg (this one is real) in my quest to touch David.

After one of the songs, David mentioned that he felt too far away from us audience. I immediately screamed a little and wore my bag, ready to leave my seat, where to I don’t know Cos there’s this fenced up section (like a moat) separating the main elevated stage from the audience. My seat was also on a slight elevated area and had its own short fence to separate us from the cat 1 on ground floor. Then David sang Tian tian. And he made his way to the flight of stairs leading to the audience area!!!!

That was at the opposite side which I guess was a good thing Cos I had time to react and run to the fence at my side to wait for his arrival. I was right at the front sia, with a girl and her bf. Thanks to my seat being at the 2nd row and the audience from the main side were shy or stoned, either way they could have beat me to it but they didn’t move lolol my gain. Kinda regretted not bringing my phone when I saw that people at cat1 selfied with him and one guy even hugged him. I felt that the short fence was not very strong and made sure not to lean against it. As David got nearer, people who subsequently queued at the back also pushed a little, and I knowingly put more of my weight on it. To my dismay the fence gave way and I was forced to take 1 step down to the ground level.. It wasn’t too far off and I was completely safe lah. Some nice people behind gasped and pulled me up immediately but there was no time for thanks man!!! A female staff also tried to close the gate while I was standing back up. !!! I was thinking “Hello my leg still there sia oi oi!” So that was the most dangerous part of that night. Thinking back it’s actually so funny XD

Seconds later David arrived at my side and we all stuck out our hands in anticipation~~~ guess whose hand he grabbed.... mine!!!!!! Wahaha the rest could only touch his fingers and wrist wahahaha omg but I wish I looked at his face more.. it all happened so fast. His hand was colder than mine and felt dry and a little rough :)

Yeaa that was the highlight of the night :) seeing David in person for the first time and getting a full hand grip from him. Throughout the concert I’d also like to think we made eye contact a few times when he came over to my side of the stage. Anyways 100% sure he saw me lah :)

David sang a lot of classics and was a total crowd pleaser. He was funny too, talking in Singapore accent occasionally and referring to him going down to the audience as night safari at the Singapore indoor stadium hahahaha. I think it was such an amazing experience, to finally meet my idol from since I was 12 and be so lucky to hear him live and have some interaction. And very happy that the bf and my colleague, both of which had no comments on David previously also enjoyed themselves :) I need to manage my expectation for the next concert because I was really so lucky this time :)
