Superior Manga by Ichtys

I started reading this manga by Ichtys early this year and enjoyed it quite alot but the updates were little and irregular so i kinda forgot about it till i spotted the recent update on onemanga.

'Superior' is the name of the manga btw, not just talking about high quality manga (what do you consider high quality manga anyway..)

Superior speaks about this world where humans and monsters are at war to exterminate each other. The male protagonist, Exa aka the Hero, strongly believes in ending the war without killing monsters and goes about confronting monsters who harm humans by defeating them without taking their lives. However, he has vowed to kill the Demon Queen because of the terrible crimes she has committed.
The female protagonist is the Demon Queen, Sheila, who is immensly powerful and kill human beings mercilessly as the leader of the monsters. With the intention of killing the Hero when she has the opportunity, Sheila joins the Hero on his mission to kill the Demon Queen without revealing her identity.

They, in the later chapters, of course, fall in love. Lalala XD

So all the emoing, suspicion and fear come in when Exa suspects Sheila of being the Demon Queen due to her being too powerful for a normal monster and Sheila on the other hand struggles with the pressure to exterminate humans and unwillingness to kill Exa or go against his principle of no-killing. There is also the fear of betrayal on both sides *enter emo stuff*

What i like about Superior is the beautiful and pleasing characters and the unbelievably funny scenes at certain parts which is very refreshing. The plot is rather cliche ie spy falls in love with enemy and betrayal stuff but these actually make it easier for the readers to relate to the characters. Though the drawings arent always clear and each chapter drags up to over 40 pages, the bishies and random scenes of comic relief egg me on.

...................................... crows: ark aaaark aaaarrrrrk....

Eh ok this isn't a good example of the hilarious scenes i've been talking about. But you get my point =D Even the characters and sidekicks are well crafted to add depth to the plot and are not totally useless. For example in Bleach i get the feeling that some of the vice captains and baddies are added in just for the sake of being there to be fought or laughed at.

No news of a Superior anime production in the near future which i'm not surprised cos this manga isn't well known. The translation project for Superior has also been dropped and picked up (due to the terribly long chapters?) I'm really thankful to all translators and people involved in the uploading process for all manga series because alot of work has to be put in to scan, align and clean the pages and of course, translate the content to proper english. Paiseh if i missed out anything hehe
So when you are in the mood for dragons, demons, heroes and swords, try reading Superior and i'm sure either the bishies or humour will win you over

Okay this took me an hour and i'm going back to reading bio now. =D Exams are ending whoo can't wait =DD

  1. seems like you've read it to v8 judged by the strange scene
well the manga surpised me because it used the major swist in the genre of fantasy (A pacifist hero )
another thing that i liked about this one is that the manga don't take itself too seriously and even make fun of itseld (v08 when some characters say that this manga quality have gone low ^^)

  3. i love this manga!!! you can read chapters 26 and 27 at gamestotal but thats as far as it goes... i love Shelia and Exa and i like how thier love is so gradual. it seems more reaistic rather than them both falling in love at the first chapter.
